Canon has created a camera worth considering for both images and video. Canon Powershot G7
When I first saw this camera, I really got my hopes up. This 10 Megapixel camera can shoot up to 2 fps for standard images and up to 4gb of HD video.
Granted the video is 720 (technically 768) and not 1080 video. The only thing that keeps me from having to have this camera is the lack of RAW support. The previous model, the G6, supported RAW. And now that I have Adobe Lightroom, I want to keep everything I shoot in RAW. Many reviewers of this camera have stated Canon removed RAW support so the camera wouldn't compete with their EOS line. If that's true, then it's a shame. This camera would be the perfect light duty family camera. For those times when carrying the 30D would seem more like punishment. ;) The G7 would allow me to take high resolution photos as well as high quality video (with just one lightweight camera) at the kids games, plays, 4H events, etc. I'm also interested in trying some underwater photography. There is no way I'm putting my 30D in an underwater case. But the G7 would be a good candidate. If you haven't figured it out already, I'm a huge Canon fan. However, it looks like I'm going to have to look outside the Canon line-up to find my lightweight all purpose camera. :( Overview:Lens - 35-210mm F2.8-4.8 Image Stabilization ISO 80-1600 Shutter Speed 15-1/2500 White Balance Control 2 fps
